Lieberman polls best among Republicans

This is priceless: Lieberman polls best among Republican voters in Connecticut at 75%!

I
f it walks like a Republican, talks like a Republican, and gets Republican votes, then it's probably a Republican. The Connecticut Democrats want an actual Democrat to be their candidate -- no sin there. If Connecticut chooses Lieberman to be their Senator -- no sin there, either.

Get over the indignation and outrage, people... it's called democracy.

Lieberman is a democrat. He's a fantastic democart. A real democrat cut from the same cloth as JFK.

He's one of the few figures of the left, who is still permitted to get some time in the spotlight, that isn't part of the lunatic left fringe that has seemed to hijacked so much of the liberal base. And now, they are going to try to kill his career because he has the AUDACTIY to disagree with the liberal party platform of disagree with everthing the current administration stands for.

More than anything else in this day of age, voters look for a candidate who is his own man. Who doesn't simply fall into line with his party. Who is intelligent, driven, and votes with his own heart/conscince, not that of his party. Lieberman is one of the very few people in either house who fits such a description.

He is more of an Independant than a liberal so I believe his decision was a terrific one. He is going to win, and I am happy.

No offense, cheeseburger (can I call you cheeseburger?), but your definition of a "fantastic democrat" isn't really going to resonate with me unless you're a Democrat. For a Republican to insist on defining what is or is not an appropriate Democratic position is kind of... well.. illogical.

And I don't actually understand this tagging of all Lamont supporters as "the lunatic left fringe" -- again, as defined by Republicans! Lamont got a lot of votes in a Connecticut primary with a record breaking turnout... this was not a fringe thing. There does seem to be, however, a blatant effort to pin the "fringe" label on a legitimate and a burgeoning liberal grassroots movement in order to try to marginalize it.

I used to like McCain quite a bit for his independence and was always bewildered by his own party calling him a RINO. McCain may occasionally buck the party platform but he is still clearly a Republican. I highly doubt McCain could run as an Independent and get 75% of the Democratic vote. On the other hand, I have not seen much Democrat in Lieberman for a long a time. To pin the party's dissat solely on his Iraq war position is convenient but ignorant.

Either way, if Lieberman runs as an Independent and wins, or if Lamont runs as a Democrat and wins, democracy has been served and I don't really have a problem with it.

I read a lot of political blogs and the discussion in this blog is some of the most intelligent on both sides. I like the fact that they are discussing the differences in a true issues format without personal attacks. It is good to get out of the TV media crap that is more name calling than substance. Way to go.
